How To Choose A Sleeping Bag?
Updated: May 4, 2022
It is important to have a comfortable sleeping bag. It can be a bit overwhelming to choose the right one as there are different kinds available. In this article we will try to explain the most imortant features that you need to know before buying one.
The appropriate type of sleeping bag depends on wet or dry weather and the maximum low temperature.
Bags fall into three basic categories: summer, three-season, and winter.
Temperature Ratings
Summer:
A summer sleeping bag is usually marked with a temperature rating of +5 degrees and higher.
Three-Season:
These bags are best suited for spring and fall trips, as well as summers in the high mountains when temps can dip below freezing at night. Temperatures from around 0 to 5°C.
Winter:
Winter bags are always bulky to pack, so you’ll want to buy a good compression stuff sack to help you tame it. The Temperature is anywhere between 0 to -5°C, a cold night but no frost.
There are other warmer sleeping bags with a temperatures as low as -10°C to -40°C, but they are not needed in Tunisia weather. They are mostly used in snow or very high mountains.
Bag Shapes
Mummy:
'Mummy' shaped sleeping bags are sleeping bags that taper in down near your feet. These sleeping bags are designed to minimise dead space at the bottom of your sleeping bag to help keep you warmer by giving air less space to circulate.
Rectangular:
With no taper at all through the legs, rectangular bags are not as thermally efficient.
Semi-rectangular:
semi-rectangular bags are a good choice for campers who can’t cope with the tightness of a mummy bag but need more warmth than a rectangular bag has to offer, but it is slightly heavier in weight.
The Temperature and the shape of the sleeping bag is very important, but the weight is as important. Put all these in consideration before purchasing a sleeping bag and if you still not sure feel free to contact us, we are more than happy to help you.
