The Decline in Tourist Arrivals

Tunisia is a very touristic country. Its weather, historical sites, and leisure activities attract millions of tourists every year. Hence, Its economy relies majorly on tourism.
Tunisia is considered one of the most visited countries in North Africa.
This chart displays the number of tourist arrivals among North African countries during 2020:
This statistic was after the pandemic, so the number is relatively less than the average number of tourist arrivals during the previous years.
With Egypt topping the list with more than 3 million visitors, followed by Morocco with 2.8 million visitors, then comes Tunisia with a high number too, with 2 million visitors in 2020. which makes these three countries are the most visited in North Africa.
Although these numbers are high, yet they are way less than what we usually receive before Covid-19.
As it is shown in the chart, a massive drop-down from the year 2019 with more than 9 million visitors to 2 million visitors in 2020.
Our tourism got a big hit. Consequently, the same happened to our economy.
The chart below represents the percentage of the Gross national product (GNP) of Tunisia during the same period, from the year 1995 to 2020:
The tourism revenue during 2020, which is right after the pandemic amounts to 1.01 billion USD, accounting for 2.4 % of the gross national product.
While in 1995, the revenues amounted to 1.84 billion USD, which is about 10.19 % of the gross national product.
With this, we come to the conclusion that Within 25 years, the country's dependence on tourism has decreased substantially.
